Joy of re-connecting

Story by Capt. Janmejay Vaishnav

Very recently, I thought of getting in touch with an Officer Commanding (OC) from whom I learnt a lot as his Adjutant, way back in 1979-80. He was then Maj. P S Grewal (he retired as Brigadier). Thanks to the Internet and Col. Rakesh Johri (Retd.) a Brother Officer who is great at keeping records, I was pleasantly surprised when he shared a list of Veteran Officers from AOC. He even gave me the serial number at which my ex-boss was listed.

I sent this SMS to my ex-boss – “Good morning sir. I bet you can’t guess who this is!” After an hour he called and said “I have received a SMS from your number and so I have called.”

I identified myself and I could actually feel his sense of absolute joy! Imagine connecting after more than four decades! After we updated ourselves about our present status, he asked me to remain in touch. Needless to say, I will. Before ending his call, he said, “Vaishnav, you have made my day!”

I followed up by sharing with him on WhatsApp a photograph showing me bidding him farewell on his posting out.

The joy of re-connecting was fantastic for both of us.
